What would you do if tomorrow you knew you were going to be arrested, falsely accused and prosecuted in a sham trial, beaten almost to death by your guards, and made to carry your own instrument of death.
How would you spend your last day?
Would you try and get away?
Would you stay with your friends and love them still, knowing they will desert you?
Would your concern be for others?
Or would you focus on yourself?
Jesus did this, He prayed for His disciples, He prayed for you and me, He taught those around Him still about love, peace, joy and His Father and that is in heaven for us
He took the disciples into the upper room He washed their feet and ate with them, all the disciples the even though they would abandon Him and including Judas the man who would betray Him.
He then went to the garden to pray knowing He would be arrested there and on His way, He sang songs of praise with the disciples.
He healed those who came and arrested Him, He spoke words of grace, comfort, and love to live by and He asked God the Father to forgive those who did this all as He was dying.
He did all this with joy because He knew that all He had prepared for since creation with the Father was coming to fulfillment and that the only way we could get to God the Father was through His death, burial and resurrection for He alone is the way, the truth, and the life.
He did this to show us His love and the Fathers love, so we could be forgiven of our sins and receive salvation, and be His forever.
So if you knew tomorrow you were going to die what would you do today?
Read the gospel of John chapters 14- 19 and see what all Jesus did for you and I.
The Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly, you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."Genesis 3:14-15 HCSB
“While he was still speaking, suddenly a mob came, and one of the Twelve named Judas was leading them. He came near Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” When those around him saw what was going to happen, they asked, “Lord, should we strike with the sword?” Then one of them struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear. But Jesus responded, “No more of this!” And touching his ear, he healed him. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, temple police, and the elders who had come for him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as if I were a criminal? Every day while I was with you in the temple, you never laid a hand on me. But this is your hour — and the dominion of darkness.”Luke 22:47-53 CSB
These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.John 15:11-13 HCSB
“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.”Hebrews 12:1-3 CSB
