Most people have a negative view of God, their views come from something others said to them about God, (those who speak wrong about who God is, really do not know Him,) or maybe something happened to them and God didn't answer them immediately or the way they wanted. They believe God is far away, cold-hearted and just could care less.
These views are not limited to unbelievers, but also those that say they believe. This condition is nothing more than the lies of the Devil.
If you want to see the heart of God it is found in His word, in His work around us, and in us through His Son Jesus Christ.
One of the best pictures in His word is found in the following story called the prodigal son.
“He also said: “A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing. Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. He longed to eat his fill from the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger! I’ll get up, go to my father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired workers.”’ So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father told his servants, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Then bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let’s celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found! ’ So they began to celebrate. “Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he summoned one of the servants, questioning what these things meant. ‘Your brother is here,’ he told him, ‘and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ “Then he became angry and didn’t want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him. But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’ “‘Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ Luke 15:11-32 CSB
See what Jesus is saying, the Father saw His son far off, and ran to Him, welcomes him home tells him what has happened is all forgiven and now he is home!
“But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. “
The Father looked daily for His son, just as God looks for the lost daily, waiting on them to come home.
I once was lost, but now I am found, I was a prodigal son and I can tell you God did welcome me home with open arms.
The Father doesn't shame him, reject him or tell him he is not His son anymore, the Father loves Him and restores him to a relationship.
Most of us are like the second son, we feel God should punish and make examples of others when they reject Him, we act selfishly and say to God what about us?
In reality, we should rejoice when people repent and come home to God, no matter what they have done, when they repent God has forgiven them and forgotten their sins, as He has ours.
We need to hear the words of the Father: Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”
There is nothing any of us have done, or said that God will not forgive us for, the only unforgivable sin is that of rejecting God, that is not coming home to Him and asking for forgiveness.
I can tell you first hand these are not just words I have heard or read about, this is truth I know first hand, and there truly is no love like the Fathers love, His love is all encompassing, all knowing, all forgiving, all giving, filled with mercy and grace for each of us, and today would be a great day to come to the Father or come back to the Father, and receive the Fathers love.
God’s word says this:
“See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children — and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him. Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when he appears, we will be like him because we will see him as he is. And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself just as he is pure.
This is how God’s children and the devil’s children become obvious. Whoever does not do what is right is not of God, especially the one who does not love his brother or sister. For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another, unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brothers were righteous. Do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death. Everyone who hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. This is how we have come to know love: He laid down his life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has this world’s goods and sees a fellow believer in need but withholds compassion from him — how does God’s love reside in him? Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth. This is how we will know that we belong to the truth and will reassure our hearts before him whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows all things.” 1 John 3:1-3, 10-20 CSB
