We have developed an attitude of living independently of God, we live according to what we think we know, or believe to be true, but our knowledge is limited.
We always underestimate our own limitations, none of us know what will happen today or tomorrow and quite frankly we are not sure what all happened yesterday. When we live outside of the will of God it is in direct opposition to His way. We are to take everything to Him, no matter how big or small, make no plans without Him, we may think that we are wise and capable but this spirit of independence is wrong and leads us astray, for we are driven by our own ambitions and desires, we start to believe we can do things without God's approval and we don't need Him. James rebukes this, so does Solomon the Bible says that when we make plans and live independently of Gods’ word and will we are foolish. We are quick to make plans and slow to ask God or even seek God first in our plans. God’s word constantly reminds us that we must seek God’s wisdom, direction and instruction no matter how small or large our plans are. What are some things you have planned or are planning now, that you need to include God in, His wisdom and grace? If we have determined in our heart to seek God and ask God we will not presume upon God, but we will ask of Him and wait for an answer, this is the opposite of what the world says, the world says if it feels good to do it. Jesus would seek the Fathers will each day and did what He was told to do. God says to be still, and wait on Him. This shows us the intent of our hearts, are we willing to wait on the will of God or are ready to press on and let the pieces fall where they may? If we are not willing to wait on God, then we have not humbled ourselves yet, and we are still the god of our own life. Gods’ word says this: “The reflections of the heart belong to mankind, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All a person’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs motives. Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established. The Lord has prepared everything for his purpose — even the wicked for the day of disaster.” “A person’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps. There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way to death.”Proverbs 16:1-4, 9,25 CSB “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will travel to such and such a city and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring — what your life will be! For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes. Instead, you should say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” James 4:13-16 CSB “Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, the Son is not able to do anything on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son likewise does these things. For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing, and he will show him greater works than these so that you will be amazed.”John 5:19-20 CSB “Then he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and began to pray, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me — nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” Then an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. Being in anguish, he prayed more fervently, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.”Luke 22:41-44 CSB
